Ideal Home Renovations for the Summer

May 14, 2019

The summer months are the most popular time of year for house remodeling in Santa Fe, NM for a variety of reasons. There are a number of renovations that are less expensive if done during the summer, and with the pleasant weather, it’s also easier to give your home some much-needed ventilation while work is being done.

With this in mind, here are just a few examples of the best jobs for you to handle once the summer arrives.

Additions

Larger projects like additions can take weeks to months to complete, depending on their size and complexity. There is a good possibility that a part of your home will be exposed to the elements, at least to an extent, during the course of this project, and will have to be tarped and covered appropriately. Your contractor will make sure your home isn’t damaged by wind or rain, but you’ll still be affected by the outdoor temperatures.

This is why summer is an ideal time for these types of projects—you don’t have to worry about freezing due to the cold winter air, as summer days and nights are much more likely to give you comfortable weather so you’re not too affected during the construction process. Summer also offers more daylight, which means longer work days and less time until you’re able to get your life back to normal.

Kitchen remodeling

There’s never really a convenient time for you to do a kitchen remodel, because it will likely involve you forfeiting the use of your major appliances for quite some time while the area is being reworked. Sure, the end result is going to be more than worth it, but it’s going to be an inconvenience until the project is complete.

Still, the least inconvenient time of year for your kitchen remodel is going to be during the summer. You’ll still be able to grill out when the weather is nice, or go have picnics in the park. It’s also not as much of a pain to go out to eat when the weather is nice!

Outdoor remodels

Remodeling isn’t just a task for the interior of your home—the exterior can benefit from some upgrades as well. For example, if your driveway is full of cracks and potholes, the summer is the best time to have it repaved, as hot weather allows for better curing. Higher temperatures prevent the asphalt from hardening up before a nice, smooth finish appears.

There are plenty of other outdoor projects you can tackle during the nice summer weather as well. Landscaping, of course, is best done in the summer when you actually know what you’re working with as far as the plant life on your property is concerned. Building or refinishing a deck is another example of one of these projects, as is installing a new swimming pool on your property.
